Colonic hydrotherapy or colonic irrigation is a method of decreasing toxic overload
in the body and relieving the bowel of accumulated wastes which may have taken
a lifetime of bad habits to accumulate!
Colonic hydrotherapy is far from a new therapy. It was first documented in 1500BC
in an ancient Egyptian document and has since been recorded through the centuries
to current times. Hippocrates was among many physicians who were known to have
documented how colonic hydrotherapy benefits the health by stimulating the body’s
own abilities to heal itself.
The colon is the body’s major organ of elimination. When there is an accumulation
of waste in the colon, toxins are reabsorbed into the blood stream and the body
enters a state of self-toxification. Many experts believe that the average person
stores between 5 and 20 pounds of faecal matter in the colon.
Diseases of the body such as inflammatory joint and skin diseases, digestive
disorders and even nervous system problems may be considered diseases of the
(originating in the) bowel. Many people are in this state in varying degrees.
Due to the typical British diet of refined carbohydrates, low fibre intake, dehydration
and lack of exercise, the U.K stands as being the most constipated country in
the world. Millions of pounds are spent annually on laxatives as the transit
time (the time it takes from eating to eliminating) of food in the gut has slowed
from a healthy 24hrs to an average of 70 hours resulting in unpleasant symptoms
experienced on a regular basis affecting our day to day lives.

The U.K also has the highest rate of bowel cancer. There is an urgent need
to improve colon health now more than ever. Colonic hydrotherapy has been found
to be one of the easiest and quickest ways of reversing this condition, along
with a change in diet and exercise.
The treatment encourages the bowel to eliminate stored faecal matter by circulating
warm filtered water round the colon over approximately 45 minutes. It also helps
to re-train the muscle of the bowel by a reflex action with gentle water pressure
through gravity and slightly varying degrees of water temperature.
